David and James go into work night after night to a private prison where little ever happens out of the ordinary. Nothing that is until a new inmate arrives to serve his sentence after murdering his family. After bounty hunters take him down and bring him to justice, providing a new opportunity for prisoners being used by the men that are supposed to uphold the system, David and James find their lives turned upside down as they fight to survive the worst prison riot in history.
There is little that anyone on the outside can do to help the outnumbered guards except to hope and pray that they make it through the longest night of their lives. Who will survive the graveyard shift when hell breaks loose?

“Every time you appear on screen someone will die.”

That’s the stark warning given to Jessica Lee, the undisputed ‘Queen of Trash TV.’ She’s the host of a confessional talk show on network television with millions of fans. But one deranged viewer is out to destroy her career. He demands that her programme be scrapped and tells her to stop appearing on TV. To prove he means business he claims his first victim – a young woman who is found dead with her throat cut.
Jessica and her bosses face an agonizing dilemma: take the show off the air or risk more murders. They decide to defy the killer, for fear of setting a dangerous precedent. But there are dire consequences.

James Raven, author of Stark Warning, has worked for over thirty years in the television industry and drew on his experience when writing this novel. He’s also the author of Rollover.

“An excellent book. Extremely well crafted and readable. It has a real sting in the tale,” Fred Dinenage, one of Britain’s best loved TV presenters.
“Find a quiet corner and enjoy that rare thing – a tale that makes you hold your breath,” Nick Knowles, TV presenter.
“Extremely satisfying thriller and great entertainment,” Booksmonthly Review.
“Rollover is a cracking crime novel. The plot is pacy and compelling – the essence of the polished ‘unputdownable’ novel,” Hampshire View Magazine.

THE TORTURED HERO: Though FBI agent Andy Knight specializes in gruesome investigations, his success rate is astounding. Superiors consider him a loose cannon with a death wish. Like a mirror, haunted memories reflect images of lives he took and lives he couldn't save. These broken reflections include the outline of a butchered body, just removed in a black bag. Nor can he forget feeling the soft flesh of a murderer's throat under his thumb as the neck snaps. The monsters he tracks torment him in surreal nightmares. To maintain what's left of his soul, he meditates. To maintain what's left of his sanity, he recites from an old book of quotations, which he memorized while being held hostage in an underground catacomb: "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster." Nietzsche.
THE BEAUTIFUL DAMSEL: "The woman who walks in beauty." Byron. Claire Forlani epitomizes innocence and hope. She is unconcerned and unaware of how she mesmerizes. As a defense attorney, her only concern is fighting for justice and truth. Even Forlani has issues. Like her mother and grandmother, she has visions, dreams, and flashes. Often these portents are nightmares about death, demons, and explosive destruction--not unlike the latest omen lingering in the air around her like a breeze before a hurricane. It involves terrified screams and tortured cries emanating from a Gothic cemetery known to her new client as the cathedral of blood.
THE ASSASSIN: "Chop, chop, choppity chop." Mother Goose. This impish serial killer for hire and master of disguise is prone to reciting nursery rhymes before flaying another victim. The illusive killer learned the art of disappearing as a young tyke playing dress up. "It was like cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, psychiatrist and psychotic, or something like that." To keep his karma clear, the twisted scamp often does a pro bono killing, thus ridding the world of a child molester or ruthless tycoon.
THE FEMME FATALE: "Better to reign in hell, than serve in heaven." Milton. Olivia Black can make a man point his own gun at his head and fire. This master of secrets, seduction, and manipulation wears a mask of respectability and power. A cushy life as the influential daughter-in-law of the President of Argentina is not enough for her. This wicked witch and her only true friends, her precious black widows, have sadistic goals yet to be fulfilled.
THE SETUP: Breathing fire like a dragon, a South American drug cartel is spreading its wings. DEA agent Raul Julia links the cartel to a new designer drug infecting the West Coast--like a deadly cancer.
THE CATALYST: Raul is brutally tortured. Before his death, he gets word to the only person he trusts, former partner, Andy Knight.
How are these players connected to dirty cops, dead homeless people, a multi-national corporation--and to each other?
Consumed by revenge, The Tortured Hero prowls the darkness, blending into the murky shadows, an existence familiar to the FBI agent. He is hunting monsters, those responsible for the murder of best friend, Raul Julia.
When Knight gets too close, he is framed for murder. The Bureau leaves him to bleed out like fresh meat over a shark pit, but he has friends in high places. Claire Forlani is sent to represent "the spy gone over the line rather than coming in from the cold."
In court, Knight knows bail will be denied, so he has a plan. As he contemplates the innocent attorney, Knight wishes he could "beseech pardon" for his apparent betrayal--just before he takes The Beautiful Damsel hostage at gun point.
Surprisingly, the hostage is later released. The bigger surprise comes when Claire refuses to leave. "This is too important. People are dying." On the run, they follow the cryptic clues to this complex puzzle while trying to stay alive. As the pieces fit together--and they deal with inner demons, they discover even more than murder and madness, much more.

The new Kay Scarpetta novel from the world's #1 bestselling crime writer.

Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning of something far more destructive: a terrifying terrain of conspiracy and potential terrorism on an international scale. And she is the only one who can stop it.

A lot can happen in a week.

It’s the sweltering summer of 1989 and eleven year old Richie South is spending his days getting up to no good with the boys from the Thomondgate estate. And away from prying eyes, he’s busy falling under the spell of the new girl in town, Marian. Then one morning five year old Tommy Kelly turns up dead, and nothing will ever be the same again.

The Boys think they know exactly who is responsible and their childish investigations lead them into the adult world of sex and death; half of them terrified, the other half fascinated. But for everyone, these seven days of summer will shape the rest of their lives.

A grisly murder. A six-year-old eyewitness. A gun from the grave.

The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner.

Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate. Thirty-six hours into the investigation, Sky's world turns upside down when she is fired from the Homicide team. They pin the murder on an innocent man, forcing Sky into a life-threatening game of cat and mouse with the real killer. From the stately mansions of Beacon Hill to the flat scrubland of central Texas, Sky keeps the reader on a razor's edge, culminating in a no-holds-barred shoot-out.

The Profiler's Daughter, the first in the Sky Stone Thriller series, introduces a moody, enigmatic, and brilliant female heroine with the fierce bite of Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander. As adeptly written as Martin Cruz Smith's complex Arkady Renko novels, this thriller offers an intriguing plot, richly detailed characters, and an astonishing conclusion guaranteed to leave the reader begging for more.

Every aspect of her being suddenly depends upon the tall, wealthy, dark haired, dark eyed businessman. Anthony Rawlings is known to the world as prosperous, benevolent, and kind. Claire quickly learns that he can also be a menacing controlling captor. With few options but concession, Claire attempts to earn her freedom, while enduring a hellish existence that truly appears perfect. Persevering tests and trials, she struggles to retain her pure Midwest values and beliefs. Encouraged by memories of a loving upbringing, she gains strength in the simplest of joys: solitude in nature and good in the face of evil. His goal in sight, Anthony’s calculated agenda encounters an unforeseen detour. He becomes captivated by Claire’s beauty, resilience, and determination. The interaction of these two compelling characters instigates strong emotions: fear, anger, love, and lust. Claire and Anthony’s tumultuous journey flows into uncharted waters of intrigue and passion. Utilizing vivid detail, this 167,000-word novel unfolds like a movie, before the eyes of its readers. From the opening criminal abduction, through twists and turns, to the unlikely romantic thrills, the suspense climaxes as Anthony’s motivation becomes evident. Anthony and Claire must decide if they will stay true to one another, or allow preceding actions to result in justifiable Consequences.

A Retirement Prospect

On a cloudy Thursday in April, Detective Lieutenant Sam Jenkins retired from a very large and overworked police department in New York.

The next day, he and his wife, Kate, closed the sale on their Long Island home, put their Scottish terrier, Bitsey, in the car, and drove to East Tennessee. They had vacationed there several times and purchased land with a view on the peaceful side of the Smoky Mountains.

In retirement, they planned to travel and take advantage of a slower lifestyle. But that didn’t last. Kate took on several volunteer jobs, and Sam, bought a mid-life crisis car, a restored 1967 Austin-Healy 3000. Then he created the
ultimate vegetable garden.

After years of relative idleness, Jenkins realized the missing element in his life was the adrenalin kick he got from being a cop. Coincidentally, the neighboring town of Prospect began looking for a new police chief. It was a match made in heaven—well almost.

Six naïve guests plus revenge served cold equals a recipe for disaster…

Lila Carmichael may be a rich and famous comedienne, but she’s hidden her greatest talent from her adoring fans—her ability to simmer, spice and serve a carefully constructed tour de force at a cozy reunion on her private island in the Pacific Northwest.

Six unsuspecting guests have forgotten the innocent little crimes they committed against poor, gullible Lila fifteen years ago in college. All are teetering on the brink of ruin, hoping the famous Lila will come to their rescue. But their desperation plays them right into her hand.

One by one, Lila's guests are figuratively killed off in a vicious parlor game called Wolves. And revenge turns bittersweet when the weekend is over…and one guest is dead for real.

Editorial Reviews:

"Revenge is indeed a dish best served cold in this fast-paced, thrilling story. Lila Carmichael is the Queen of Comedy, a wealthy TV actress with legions of adoring fans, who capitalizes on her less-than-gorgeous looks and snarky sense of humor…But Lila hasn’t forgotten how cruel they were to her when she was a heavy, unhappy preacher’s daughter too naive to know they were using her. And now she’s got them trapped right where she wants them, and she turns them on each other, bringing to light their greed and the dark secrets they’ve been keeping all these years. Before the weekend is over, one of them will end up dead…a page-turning thrill-ride that will have readers holding their breath the whole way through." — Publishers Weekly

"Take a remote island setting and an ill-fated reunion, throw in a few hot tempers, and a dash of revenge, and you end up with murder...and a puzzle that mystery lovers will relish unraveling. C. S. Lakin delivers readers a real page-turner with "Innocent Little Crimes," an engaging whodunit that pulls readers in from the first page. Who knew reunions could be so deadly?" —Elizabeth Craig, author of Quilt or Innocence

"This psychological thriller is reminiscent of Agatha Christie, the best-selling novelist of all time. The pacing is excellent and keeps you on the edge. Lakin's word pictures are so good you'll think you're watching a movie. This is definitely a novel that needs to be a permanent resident in your collection because you'll want to read it over and over—the greatest compliment any book can ever get." —Ken Farmer, author of Black Eagle Force

"Combine one part Agatha Christie, one part Lord of the Flies and a hefty measure of Roseanne Barr. Blend with strong character development, excellent writing, a solid story and glaze liberally with selfish human nature. Yields one fine serving of Innocent Little Crimes." —Claude Bouchard, bestselling author of Vigilante

"C. S. Lakin's Innocent Little Crimes will make you think twice before attending your next reunion. Most people stay the same year after year... but some don't." —Kirkus MacGowan, author of The Fall of Billy Hutching

What does a mysterious file have to do with a commissioner’s election in Florida? Attorney Mark Stone has weeks, if not days, to locate the file and find out. However, no one who has seen the content of the file has lived to tell about it.

The Kappa File is a fast-paced legal and political thriller set in Miami-Dade County, Florida, where the winner in a special election for County Commission casts a tie-breaking vote to award a multi-million dollar construction contract to the competitor of Mark Stone’s client. However, Mark has some doubts about the circumstances of the contract award. Why did a commissioner abruptly resign to pave the way for the special election? If the new commissioner’s win in that special election was a true upset, why did his opponent already know that the commissioner would win the election in spite of the commissioner being far behind in the polls?

Mark knows that the answer may reside in a mysterious file, called the Kappa file, that his client’s former attorney was looking for. Knowing what’s in the file or who created it may solve the mystery. However, if made public, the content of the file may shake the political establishment. As a result, a killer is out there determined to stop Mark. He has already killed the previous attorney handling the case and is now coming after Mark.

Excerpt from the book:

"With one swerve, the driver of the van hit their car on the driver’s side. Horror seized Stephen and Gwendolyn as they saw the man with the crew cut smile at them before speeding away.

The impact caused the car to violently hit the wall of the bridge and break it, before going over the edge. As the car hung suspended in the air, there was darkness below. It was as if they were in a plane that was going to crash.

They knew that death waited for them. However, Stephen and Gwendolyn wished they were in a plane crash instead. Because in a plane crash, they might have had enough time to pray. It’s not that they were religious. It was just that they were not ready to die."
