Review & Description
The Fires devastated much of the Uptown Business District in Butte, Montana, during the 1970s. Patrick Connors, an Irish-born fireman, perished while fighting the Pennys Fire on Park Street in February, 1972. Twenty-five years later his nephew Liam Connors comes to Butte from Ireland. His plans are to vacation with his friend John Sullivan and to meet the people from his uncle’s past.
Liam Connors learns that the Penneys Fire has dramatically branded Butte forever and shaped the future of its Uptown Business District. He also discovers that his uncle died under suspicious circumstances. In searching for the truth, Liam disturbs a powerful secret locked away for twenty-five years. Ruthless criminals from the past surface and once again murder is implemented to protect the hideous truth behind “the Fires.”
As Connors and Sullivan cruise toward the inevitable confrontation with these criminals, Police Detective Maurice Simonich, and a cast of lively Butte characters find themselves drawn into the unfolding drama. The unique people of Butte and its turbulent mining history emerge as this confrontation builds toward the mystery’s exciting climax.
